Benefits

Window Tinting Details: Films, California Law and Aftercare

Professional window tint reduces heat, glare and UV exposure inside your vehicle and adds privacy to the rear seats. At IKON Edition in Laguna Hills we install premium automotive films on cars, trucks and SUVs for drivers across Orange County, with each piece cut to fit its window for a smooth, bubble-free finish.

Films we install

We work with films from industry leaders including 3M, Avery Dennison, KPMF, XPEL and EVOLV. Tint films differ mainly in how much heat they reject and how dark they look:

  • Dyed and carbon films give a clean, dark look and cut glare at an accessible price point.
  • Ceramic films reject more heat without needing a very dark shade and do not interfere with phone, GPS or radio signals.

Quality films block the vast majority of UV rays, which protects your skin and helps keep the dashboard and upholstery from fading. We recommend a film based on how you use your vehicle, how dark you want the windows and your budget.

California window tint law in brief

  • Windshield: non-reflective tint is allowed only on the top 4 inches.
  • Front side windows: glass and film together must let in more than 70% of outside light, which limits them to very light films.
  • Rear side and back windows: any darkness is allowed, as long as the vehicle has outside mirrors on both sides.
  • Medical exemptions: drivers with a qualifying condition may be eligible for an exemption with documentation from their physician.

We help you choose a shade that fits the look you want and the rules for your vehicle (California Vehicle Code, section 26708).

What to expect on install day

  1. Each window is cleaned thoroughly and the film is cut to its exact shape.
  2. The film is applied to the inside of the glass and squeegeed to remove water and air.
  3. We inspect edges and clarity before handing the vehicle back.

Aftercare

Slight haziness or small water pockets during the first days are normal while the film cures; they disappear on their own. Keep the windows rolled up for the first few days. Once cured, clean the glass with a soft microfiber cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner.

Common questions

Will tint affect my rear defroster? No. Film applied correctly works with the defroster lines on the rear window.

Can I protect the paint too? Yes. Many customers pair tint with paint protection film on the front end in the same visit.

Is it covered by a warranty? Coverage depends on the film you choose. Ask us about warranty coverage for your film and installation when you request a quote.

We serve drivers across Orange County from our Laguna Hills studio, including Irvine, Mission Viejo, Costa Mesa, and Newport Beach.
